Sol Y Luna: 21st Century Tango Love Stories

SOL Y LUNA is a bold reimagining of tango for the 21st century. A live, immersive love story where passion moves through loss and emerges in triumph. Set to the driving, Broadway musical sound of Orquesta Típica Misteriosa de Buenos Aires, the work fuses live music, dance, and visual storytelling into a visceral theatrical experience that feels both timeless and urgently now. Rooted in Argentine tradition yet shaped for contemporary audiences, Sol y Luna unfolds as a full circle journey of connection, migration, and legacy, proving that love never fails.

Handpicked by the late Robert Joffrey for her unique artistry, Cynthia Giannini shares her lifetime of devotion to the creation of this world class, large scale production. Sol y Luna brings together Tony nominated choreographers from Forever Tango and Broadway, alongside award-winning tango artists from the U.S. and abroad. The result is an all star ensemble and a powerful new vision where classical excellence meets contemporary daring, and tango speaks unmistakably in the language of today.

Orquesta Típica Misteriosa de Buenos Aires delivers tango with the dramatic force and sophistication of a Broadway score. Founded in 2008, the orchestra fuses the soul of the golden-age tango orchestras with contemporary composition, rhythm, and theatrical pacing. This is tango reimagined for the stage; lush, percussive, cinematic, and emotionally charged. Their music moves seamlessly between classic works and bold new compositions, supporting narrative, character, and transformation rather than functioning as background accompaniment.

In Sol y Luna, Misteriosa is not just an orchestra, they are a storytelling engine. Their sound provides the musical architecture for a 21st century tango work with the scale, emotional accessibility, and sonic identity needed to resonate with modern audiences and commercial stages.

On our fourth meeting in Buenos Aires, this February,  we will begin curating the story through the language of their music and the incredible dialogue that is inherent in Argentine Tango.
