We Are Looking For You!

Mission and History:
Founded in Denver’s RiNo Arts District in 2022, Artists Amongst Us grew from a series of intimate salons that brought musicians, dancers, poets, spoken word artists, and filmmakers together with audiences to experience art up close. Today, the organization supports diverse and multicultural voices in the performing arts by creating opportunities, increasing artists’ visibility, and fostering meaningful collaboration and community. Artists Amongst Us believes art is not a luxury, but a lifeline, and that artists deserve sustainable platforms where their work can be developed, shared, and celebrated.
As the organization continues to grow, our mission is clear: Artists Amongst Us is a nonprofit organization that brings artists together, across cultures, to create, develop, and share original performing arts experiences in Colorado. We cultivate artistic excellence by providing opportunities for artists to collaborate, amplify diverse voices, and deepen human connection.

Qualifications
Core Responsibilities
Artists Amongst Us offers three interconnected areas of programming: full-length productions, intimate salon performances, and Spaghetti Night, our monthly creative gathering. Our full-length productions bring original, interdisciplinary works to the stage, combining theatre, music, dance, and storytelling while creating paid opportunities for Colorado artists. Our salons invite audiences to experience new and developing work in an intimate setting, followed by meaningful conversations with the artists about the themes, creative process, and future direction of each piece. Spaghetti Night provides an accessible, welcoming space where artists can share works in progress, experiment with new ideas, receive feedback, and connect with potential collaborators. What makes Artists Amongst Us unique is the participatory nature of these experiences. Audiences are not simply passive spectators; they are invited to engage directly with the artists and the work, ask questions, offer reflections, and become part of the development process. By breaking down the traditional separation between artists and audiences, AAU creates a vibrant creative community where original work can grow through collaboration, honest exchange, and shared discovery.
Under Colorado law, every nonprofit corporation must have a governing board unless its articles of incorporation provide otherwise. Serving as a board member means accepting a legal responsibility to act in good faith, exercise the care of an ordinarily prudent person, and make decisions the director reasonably believes are in the nonprofit’s best interests. (C.R.S. §§ 7-128-101 and 7-128-401)
Artists Amongst Us’s board has three committed members, and we'd like to grow to 5-7 board members. We seek dedicated, knowledgeable volunteers who are passionate about the arts and committed to our mission to support artists, amplify diverse voices, and create meaningful opportunities for cultural expression and collaboration. We welcome individuals who believe in the power of the arts to deepen human connection, strengthen communities, and help heal and transform our world.
While the position is unpaid, it carries meaningful responsibilities. As a member of the Board of Directors, you will not only be our ambassador in the community - you will have legal and fiduciary duties to help ensure the organization is governed ethically, responsibly, and in accordance with nonprofit law. Board members play an active role in strategic planning, financial oversight, fundraising, organizational governance, and helping Artists Amongst Us grow in a sustainable way.
As part of this commitment, each Board member is expected to participate actively in the financial sustainability of the organization through an annual $2,000 give-or-get commitment. This does not mean that every Board member must personally donate $2,000. The commitment may be fulfilled through a personal contribution, fundraising on behalf of Artists Amongst Us, securing sponsorships or donations through your network, or any combination of giving and fundraising that totals at least $2,000 annually. We believe fundraising is a shared responsibility of Board leadership and an essential part of building a strong and sustainable organization.
